The national average price of on-highway diesel topped $4 a gallon for the first time since mid-September 2008 during the week ended April 11, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. Prices jumped 10.2 cents to $4.078 — just over $1 higher than the same week last year and about $1.03 — or 35 percent — higher than late September when the current surge began.
Prices increased in all regions, led by the Central Atlantic region. The smallest increase was in New England. California diesel was most expensive at $4.397 a gallon while the Gulf Coast region had the least expensive diesel at must over $4
