Xata says that by bringing its easy-to-use tools to the Android operating system, the company now can better serve the growing number of fleets and drivers who are seeking affordable solutions to help them adhere to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Compliance Safety Accountability initiative.
Xata Turnpike already is certified to run on several Android-enabled smartphones, and additional Android devices will be certified in the coming weeks, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The largest Galaxy Tab comes with a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen, giving drivers an extra-large screen with an hours-of-service graphical interface that supports fingertip scrolling and pinch-to-zoom.
Xata says the Galaxy Tab and all Android-enabled devices certified for Xata Turnpike are suited for drivers who want to run their fleet management system on the same device they use for off-duty activities, such as e-mailing, Web browsing, reading and watching TV or movies. Additionally, Xata Turnpike for Android includes a mobile API that third-party applications can leverage to access basic vehicle and driver information, including driver and vehicle identification numbers, mileage, motion, speed and GPS.
