American Central Transport Inc. announced that it will increase the pay for independent contractors who have their hazmat endorsement beginning in March. Contractors with hazmat will be paid $1 per loaded mile on every load they haul for ACT, including nonhazmat loads.

“We’re excited to offer top pay to owner-operators who have all their credentials,” says Chad Still, ACT recruiting manager. “Even though less than 5 percent of our freight is hazmat, we’re offering premium pay for everything our contractors are hauling. We know that costs are going up, and we want to partner with our contractors to see that they’re successful and that their businesses continue to make money.”

ACT says it is announcing this increase now in order to give contractors time to start the application for a hazmat endorsement if they don’t already have one. Still says that contractors may go on and sign with ACT now and receive 94 cents per mile while they’re waiting to receive their hazmat. Upon receiving their hazmat credentials, their pay will be increased to $1 per loaded mile.
