Odyssey Software, a provider of enterprise-class mobile device management software, announced that its Athena software provides support for the Kindle Fire, enabling live access to devices plus passcode reset, lock and wipe functions for remote assistance; reporting detailed hardware, software, network and device health information; setting passcode policies; and deploying applications, documents and media.

“Managing the influx of employee-owned or ‘BYOD’ devices being brought into the corporate environment is a tremendous challenge for IT administrators,” says Mark Gentile, chief executive officer of Odyssey Software. “Millions of Kindle Fire devices
were sold in December, and many of these will find their way onto corporate networks even though they were not purposefully designed for use in the enterprise. To address some of these challenges, we strongly recommend that all BYOD devices be approved and enrolled in an MDM program before allowing employees to connect to the corporate network.”
