Swift Transportation Co. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, announced fourth-quarter net income of $36.8 million compared with a net loss of $48.3 million during the same period in 2010. Operating revenue rose 10 percent to $860.7 million.

The Phoenix-based company said its fourth-quarter results were attributable to improved pricing and strong freight volumes during the holiday shopping season. For 2012, Swift predicts “a slow, steady growth environment similar to 2011.”
