For the fourth consecutive year, Volvo Trucks will recognize two North American fleets for their commitment to safety through the Volvo Trucks Safety Award. Recipients of the 2012 award each will receive $25,000 to be used toward their safety-related activities.

Michelin again joins Volvo Trucks in sponsoring the Volvo Trucks Safety Award, which focuses on the importance of highway safety for the trucking industry and for all motorists.

“Safety is paramount for both Michelin and Volvo Trucks, so we’re pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication to safety exhibited by the industry’s top performers,” says Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Trucks North American sales and marketing. “Volvo’s longstanding core value of safety guides our designs and is woven throughout our products. The Volvo Trucks Safety Award allows us to help fleets strengthen their safety cultures and programs.”

The Volvo Trucks Safety Award is open to all U.S. and Canadian fleets operating at least five Class 8 units. Fleets must have at least one Volvo tractor in operation to be eligible for the award. Entrants will be ranked by their accident frequency rates. Participating fleets will also be judged on their accident prevention activities.

The deadline for entry is July 31. The winners of the award will be announced during the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition in October. The two grand prizes will be awarded to the fleets with the best records in two divisions based on annual vehicle miles traveled: less than 20 million miles and more than 20 million miles.
