The Truck Renting and Leasing Association announced the launch of its new TRALA Industry Scholarship Program that will award up to four $5,000 scholarships annually for use by students pursuing a course of study relating to the truck transportation industry at an accredited vocational program. Courses of study may include, but are not limited to, heavy-duty truck technology, diesel technology, industrial mechanics and medium/heavy vehicle technology.

The TRALA Industry Scholarship Program scholarship will be open to employees of TRALA member companies and their children and dependents. There is no age limit for applicants, and military veterans will be encouraged to participate.

“The truck renting and leasing industry prides itself on having the best maintenance technicians in the business,” says Tom James, TRALA president and chief executive officer. “The Industry Scholarship Program will help to ensure that the most promising vocational students have an opportunity to pursue their career study regardless of their financial means.”

TRALA says its new Industry Scholarship Program comes at a time when the truck transportation industry is experiencing a growing shortage of qualified workers, particularly vehicle and engine maintenance technicians. At the same time, new and complex vehicle and engine technologies are increasing the demand for highly skilled technicians.

“This is the right program at the right time for our industry,” says Terry Dubowick, TRALA chairman. “We are proud to be part of the solution by providing opportunity for vocational students while meeting an important need for truck renting and leasing companies.”

Applications for the TRALA Industry Scholarship will be accepted on a year-round basis. Scholarships will be awarded twice a year.
