The average retail price of a gallon of on-highway diesel rose for the ninth straight week during the week ended Monday, March 26, but only by half a cent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The average price now is $4.147. Prices are 21.5 cents higher than the same week last year.
For the second straight week, prices rose in all regions except in California, where prices remain the nation’s highest at $4.476 despite slipping half a cent. The largest increase was 1.7 cents in the Rocky Mountain region; the smallest were the two-tenth of a cent increases in the Gulf Coast and West Coast. The least expensive diesel on average is $4.046 a gallon in the Midwest.
