Use of the Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI can improve fuel economy by up to 1.4 percent, the Troy, Mich.-based truck parts maker said Thursday, April 12.

The MTIS was tested by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s research division. Gordon Food Service, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Sheetz Inc., based in Altoona, Pa., participated in the tests.

“We are pleased to see the results of the study, which clearly reiterate the importance of MTIS for our customers on the road and their bottom line,” said Craig Frohock, general manager, Global Trailer, Meritor.

The tire inflation system is a “simple design that can be installed on any type of trailer,” the company says, and is compatible with Meritor’s EABCO PLC Display for tractor-trailer communications.
