Total Transportation Services Inc. and Vision Motors, both of Southern California, have been named top award winners in their respective categories at the annual Edison Awards, which recognizes energy solutions and innovation.

TTSI won the Gold Medal in the category of “Energy and Sustainability, Automotive/Transportation” for its Class 8 hybrid truck fleet. Vision received the Bronze Medal in the Transportation Category behind only Ford Motor Co. for its 2012 Ford Focus Electric and Fisker Automotive for its Fisker Karma.

“We are extremely honored to have been awarded this recognition,” says Vic LaRosa, president and chief executive officer of TTSI. “Our business has made an unparalleled commitment to innovation in greening the supply chain. Our use of the hydrogen fuel-cell platform, among our other clean trucks, is proof of that commitment and we are pleased to have been recognized for those efforts.”

The Class 8 “Tyrano” truck, for which both companies were honored, is a joint effort between TTSI and Vision and is designed for drayage in the maritime and construction environments.

“Vision has always been on the cutting edge of innovative transportation technologies,” says Martin Scheurmann, CEO of Vision Motors. “This Edison Award is a testament to our efforts in supplying true zero-emissions technologies to the transportation and goods-movement industries.”
