Con-way Freight announced that it has been named by Toyota Motor Sales North American Parts Operations as its 2012 Air/LTL Carrier of the Year. Toyota presented the award to Con-way Freight at its annual logistics partners meeting in Southern California, where the company evaluates performance of its partners, discusses industry issues and shares best practices. The program honors top performers in six categories of transportation/logistics service providers.

Toyota said it selected Con-way as its top-performing less-than-truckload carrier based on quarterly and annual reviews by field and corporate logistics personnel. Carriers were rated on six key performance criteria, including on-time delivery, damage/claims prevention, equipment/personnel availability, cost efficiency and invoice accuracy, participation in process improvement efforts and support for Toyota’s Kaizen Challenge Program to eliminate waste and drive continuous improvement across logistics and transportation operations.

“Regardless of the pickup or delivery point, Con-way Freight consistently provides a high level of service and performance excellence,” said Neil Swartz, corporate manager for national field operations, Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. “They have engaged very well with every area of our organization, demonstrated excellent understanding of our business and our objectives, and given us top-notch service execution. They were the clear standout in this category.”

“I’m proud and humbled that our focus on Lean has once again resulted in a positive customer experience and such a prestigious award from the very company that founded Lean,” said Greg Lehmkuhl, president of Con-way Freight. “I want to thank Toyota for the recognition and ongoing partnership.”
