Average diesel price falls 3.4 cents

Fuel 1022The national average retail diesel price dropped 3.4 cents to $4.116 a gallon during the week ended Oct. 22, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. The latest weekly price is 29.1 cents above the same week last year.

The average diesel price fell in all regions except New England, which might be seeing a bit of price pressure from pre-winter home heating oil buying. Prices were up just 0.5-cent in that region. The largest drop was 5.2 cents in California, which nevertheless still has the nation’s most expensive on average at $4.385 per gallon. The Gulf Coast region has the least expensive diesel on average at $3.999 a gallon and is the only region where the average price is below $4 a gallon.
