The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association announced Nov. 20 it raised $52,528 this year in its Truckers For Troops campaign. The money will be used to pack and send care packages to U.S. military members stationed in combat zones.
Fundraising took place last week, the week of Veterans Day, with the money being raised from a 10 percent cut of OOIDA’s annual membership renewal fees.
“We thank our members for making it all possible and hope they continue to follow updates on social media,” said Norita Taylor, media spokesperson for OOIDA.
The first shipments of packages will go out mid-January 2015.
Anyone who has a family member or friend serving in a war zone with the U.S. military, and who would like for them to get a care package, can send the name and complete address to [email protected].
