SmartDrive Systems, a provider of driving performance systems for reducing collisions and improving fuel efficiency, announced that Mid South Baking Company, a regional supplier of baked goods to restaurants and institutions, has rolled out SmartDrive’s video-based safety program across its entire fleet.
Within the first three weeks of implementation, Mid South Baking Company saw its safety score improve by 68 percent as seatbelt usage increased by 94 percent, incomplete stops reduced by 67 percent and distracted driving and unsafe following reduced by 100 percent.
Mid South Baking Company delivers products to 3,500 restaurants across the Southern and Western United States. Following an extensive evaluation process of multiple providers, Mid South Baking Company selected SmartDrive for its usability of the coaching application, the configurable coaching and scoring capabilities, its open technology platform, which offers up to four camera views and extended recording capability, and SmartDrive’s dedicated customer success team and partnership approach.
“As a supplier for one of the most recognizable global brands, our top priority is delivering on our company promise of quality, food safety and customer service. It is a commitment that starts at the top and one that every employee is focused on in their daily work,” said Mike Little, director of transportation for Mid South Baking Company. “After deploying SmartDrive’s video-based safety solution, we quickly identified the risk areas that we otherwise could not see and were able to immediately and positively impact performance. With SmartDrive’s program in place, we are able to identify the risks that lead to collisions, improving overall safety and helping us live up to our brand promise.”
SmartDrive identifies unsafe driving with an open platform that integrates video, vehicle, audio and driving data for a unified view of risk. The program automatically offloads footage for expert review and analysis, and prioritization for coaching. Mid South Baking Company is also benefitting from SmartDrive’s extended recording capability, capturing more information around incidents and gaining deeper insight into compliance and safety issues, which the company was not privy to before.
“We have worked closely with the company during its rollout to effectively communicate the goals of the program to employees, enabling dramatic driver improvement,” said Steve Mitgang, CEO of SmartDrive. “And, because we are the only program that integrates with the engine and triggers in real-time from a broad range of risk indicators, we capture the risk that other systems simply cannot see.”
