Diesel prices spiked by 7.8 cents nationally last week, rising to a $2.099 national average, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.
Prices increased in all regions across the U.S. last week, with the most significant increase coming in the Lower Atlantic region, where prices rose 9.1 cents.
The nation’s most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.39 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $2.249 per gallon.
The cheapest fuel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $1.99 per gallon, followed by the Rocky Mountain region at $1.999 per gallon.
Prices in other regions, according to the DOE, are as follows:
- New England – $2.204
- Lower Atlantic – $2.07
- Midwest – $2.065
- West Coast less California – $2.153
ProMiles’ numbers have the average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel at $2.058 per gallon nationwide, a 6.8-cent increase over last week’s numbers.
According to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index, the most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.30 per gallon, and the cheapest can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $1.98 per gallon.
