Landstar owner-operator Ralph Hall recently drove home in a brand new Peterbilt 579 after winning the truck in the company’s Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway.
Hall was one of five finalists for the truck randomly selected from 170,000 entries, the company says.
“I drove it home and I’m still in disbelief,” Hall says. “Nothing like this has ever happened to me.”
Hall, a Tennessee resident, says his 5-year-old grandson predicted he would win the truck. “Trenton said he saw ‘Papa Ralph’ winning a big red truck,” Hall says. But at the time, neither Hall nor his grandson knew the color of the truck, which is Pierce Red.
Landstar President and CEO Jim Gattoni hosted the Deliver to Win Truck Giveaway, along with representatives from sponsor Comdata. For every 10 loads a Landstar owner-operator picked up and delivered during the contest period, he or she received an entry into the contest drawing, and if the driver used the LandstarConnect app to update his or her status on a load, the load counted as two loads. Other ways to earn entries included attending a safety meeting, attending an Appreciation Days event, receiving a clean Level 1 inspection and more. Five finalists were selected in a random drawing, then the winner was selected in another random drawing.
“It is an honor to award BCOs (Business Capacity Owners) like Ralph Hall with a brand new truck that can significantly and positively impact their lives,” Gattoni says. “These truck owner-operators are hardworking small businesspeople who are committed to our safety-first culture and provide excellent customer service each day.”
Landstar will give away a second truck this year in July.
