The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is amplifying its efforts to educate all drivers on how to better share the roads and drive safer around large trucks and buses.
Joining FMCSA in the “Our Roads, Our Safety” campaign are the American Trucking Associations, AAA and the American Bus Association in an effort to reduce highway fatalities, especially those involving commercial vehicles, through public awareness and education.
“FMCSA is pleased to work with a group of partners that are dedicated to safety and share our agency’s goal of reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses on the road,” says FMCSA Deputy Administrator Daphne Jefferson. “This important partnership amplifies the message that all drivers on the roadway must work together to ensure that everyone arrives safely at their destinations.”
FMCSA is urging car drivers to stay out of trucks’ blind spots, make sure they can see truckers in the mirror before passing, not to cut in close in front of trucks, anticipate wide turns, avoid distractions and be patient when driving around trucks.
A series of videos, advertisements, infographics and more have been developed as part of the campaign to inform and encourage drivers to drive safely around trucks and buses.
