The Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on Wednesday unanimously voted to approve the confirmation of Raymond P. Martinez to head the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration under President Trump. Martinez must now be confirmed by the full Senate via a majority vote to assume the post as FMCSA Administrator.

Martinez testified in a confirmation hearing last week before the Senate committee, telling the Senate panel he intends to uphold the Dec. 18 deadline for compliance with the federal electronic logging device mandate and that he hopes to institute data-driven reforms to the Compliance, Safety, Accountability carrier rating program.

Trump nominated Martinez in late September to head FMCSA.

Martinez has spent most of his career in transportation-related bureaucratic positions. He’s worked as the chairman and chief administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission since 2010 under Gov. Chris Christie.
