Fuel prices barely budge in most recent week

Diesel fuel prices held flat again during the week ending August 6, falling by just three-tenths of a cent, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.

With the small drop, the U.S.’ average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel is now $3.223. Price have held between $3.20 and $3.25 since mid-June.

During the most recent week, prices fell in most regions with the most significant decrease being seen in the Midwest and West Coast less California regions, which saw half-cent drops.

California’s prices still soar above the rest of the nation at $3.943 per gallon, followed by the West Coast less California region at $3.432 per gallon.

The cheapest diesel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.995 per gallon, followed by the Lower Atlantic region at $3.093 per gallon.

Prices in other regions, according to DOE, are:

  • New England – $3.271
  • Central Atlantic – $3.393
  • Midwest – $3.151
  • Rocky Mountain – $3.361

ProMiles’ numbers during the week saw fuel prices during the week stay flat, rising by just a half cent to $3.16 per gallon nationwide.

According to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index, the most expensive diesel can be found in California at $3.922 per gallon, and the cheapest can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $3.017 per gallon.
