After trending downward through most of the second half of 2018, per-mile spot market flatbed rates ticked upward in December, according to data from Truckstop.com. Likewise, van rates climbed slightly, too, after falling off since July.

However, reefer rates were still up a dime from the same month in 2017. Reefer rates hit $3.02 a mile in June 2018.

Flatbed rates climbed three cents to $2.43 a mile, down 45 cents from their June high of $2.88, but up 2 cents from December 2017.

Van rates climbed 2 cents from November to $2.35 a mile. However, van rates were down 2 cents from the same month in 2017. The segment hit a high of $2.73 in June.
