United Road Services (No. 55 on the CCJ Top 250) announced this week it is acquiring a logistics company that will allow it to expand into moving heavy-haul equipment.

The company has acquired Olathe, Kansas-based Team Drive-Away (TDA) and its affiliates Driveaway USA and Fr8 Management. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

TDA is a non-asset-based logistics provider that specializes in moving new and used heavy-haul Class 8 trucks. A press release from United Road says TDA handles 20,000 vehicles annually through a network of more than 500 independent contractors. TDA’s headquarters will remain in Kansas.

With the acquisition, United Road says will move more than 4 million new, used and specialty vehicles in 2019.

“Team Drive-Away is a natural fit for United Road that further diversifies our business,” says Mark Anderson, president and CEO of United Road. “TDA is a customer-driven business that brings new heavy-haul capabilities to United Road. Its asset-light business model of partnering with trusted independent contractors combined with our geographic territories will bring new opportunities and new customers to our combined enterprise.”

United Road, until the acquisition, has offered finished vehicle transport and logistics services in the U.S. and Canada. The company is owned by The Carlyle Group.
