Commercial Carrier Journal has named Nussbaum Transportation its 2025 CCJ Innovator of the Year for the creation of Sales Scope, a proprietary program that expedites the carrier's response to Requests for Proposals (RFP), turning an hours long manual process to just seconds.
The CCJ Innovators program is sponsored by Comdata, Mobil Delvac, Fleetworthy and Mack Trucks.
Nussbaum was selected by CCJ editors as the 2025 CCJ Innovator of the Year at the 21st annual CCJ Innovators Summit in Key Largo, Florida, Thursday night. The event gathers current and previous CCJ Innovators for three days of networking, presentations and idea sharing among some of the trucking industry’s most forward-thinking fleets and leading executives. During the year, CCJ, a national leading business magazine for truck fleet executives, highlights one fleet each month as part of its CCJ Innovators program.
Tyler Dietrich, now the director of product at Nussbaum, joined the Hudson, Illinois-based carrier as a pricing analyst, and the company tasked Dietrich – and his talent for Microsoft Excel – to design a process to boost efficiency in the pricing department.
That application would revolutionize the RFP response process.
Dietrich noted the "enemy" of the RFP process is disorganization, leading to unbalanced networks, thin margins, a struggle to pass along cost increases, high inefficiency, and driver turnover, and it gives shippers more control over negotiations.
The automation and standardization of the bid process wrested back that control, and led to a 20x speed gain for general bidding and a 15x speed gain for operations review. Using lane context and strategy, the tool improved pricing intelligence, allowing the fleet to maintain rates 5% higher than the market over the last 10 quarters, and it has propelled Nussbaum to industry-leading miles per truck and revenue per truck metrics.
Nussbaum Transportation was in a class of other industry-leading fleets recognized by CCJ editors throughout 2024 including American Central Transport, Dohrn Transfer, RXO, Cargo Transporters, Chief Carriers, PITT OHIO, Estes Express Lines, Fraley and Schilling, GES, Alchemist Speciality Carriers, and Penske.
