Greatwide Logistics Services, a nonasset-based provider of transportation and third-party logistics services, on Monday, July 11, announced the appointment of John Tague as chief executive officer. Tague succeeds Leo Suggs, who is retiring from the CEO position but will continue to serve as chairman.

Tague, 49, brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having formerly served as president of United Airlines where he had responsibility for all airline management functions. In his eight years with United Airlines, Tague also held other senior leadership positions including chief operating officer and chief revenue officer.

“John Tague is a proven leader who has the experience and skill set necessary to lead a complex market-leading organization,” says Will Manuel, senior managing director at Centerbridge Partners. “Centerbridge and Greatwide look forward to a long and prosperous partnership with John.”

Suggs, 71, joined Greatwide as executive chairman in 2009 and assumed the role of CEO a year later. He successfully guided the company through the freight recession of 2009, launched several successful organic growth initiatives and continued acquisitions to expand customer offerings. Suggs’ experience spans more than 50 years in the transportation and logistics business, most recently serving as a consultant for Centerbridge before taking the helm of Greatwide.

“Leo Suggs has left a lasting legacy of success in senior leadership roles throughout the transportation and logistics industry,” Manuel says. “As CEO of Greatwide, Leo has continued his successful track record by solidifying Greatwide’s leadership position as the largest for-hire dedicated carrier in the country. We look forward to working with Leo in his continued role as chairman of Greatwide and a trusted senior adviser to Centerbridge.”
