A Florida woman with three prior DUI convictions was sentenced to 28 years in prison today for a hit-and-run crash that killed a tow truck driver in 2016.

Allison Huffman, 38, had pled guilty to striking and killing 43-year-old Rogelio Perez-Borroto in February of 2016 as he recovered a stalled car on the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa, according to fox13news.com.

The couple whom Perez-Borroto had stopped to help were waiting inside his truck when they saw a black Volkswagen Passat, later traced to Huffman, slamming into Perez-Borroto and driving off without stopping.

Following the collision Huffman drove to a hotel where she left her car and took a cab to Walgreen’s to get something to eat. Huffman then went to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino where she gambled for hours, according to law enforcement.

After leaving the casino, Huffman attempted to hide at the house of a friend in St. Petersburg who then notified police.

Huffman, who has spent the last two years in jail, had been facing up to 30 years in prison.
