In this Preventable or Not accident scenario, truck driver John Doe was waiting at a red light early in the morning when he heard loud country music approaching from the right. A beat-up Ford pickup rolled up beside his rig and kept its engine revving. As the light turned green and the two vehicles began to move forward, the right lane started to merge.

Rather than fall in behind the truck, the pickup driver gunned it and cut sharply in front of Doe—only to slam into the front fender of the rig. Police cited the pickup driver for an unsafe lane change, but Doe’s company still hit him with a preventable accident.

Could he have seen it coming? Was this crash truly preventable?
