SAF-HOLLAND  Sunday at the Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting IN Nashville announced three major product launches aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and maintenance for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

BrakeSight: Real-time wear monitoring

Brake Sight And Ulx40 View1

This new feature for Haldex ModulT air disc brakes provides continuous, real-time visibility into brake pad and rotor wear, said Michael Ginocchio, Vice President of Engineering - Americas at SAF-HOLLAND.

"It ensures brake pads and rotors are serviced at exactly the right time," he added.

A sensor integrated into the caliper monitors the adjustment mechanism, translating movement into a percentage of remaining life.

BrakeSight is an optional feature for the Haldex ModulT air disc brake that integrates a sensor directly into the brake caliper within the brake adjustment system. As the adjustment mechanism rotates to compensate for pad and rotor wear, BrakeSight continuously monitors this movement and translates it into a percentage of remaining pad and rotor life at each wheel end. The sensor connects to a frame-mounted electronic control unit (ECU), which converts the signal and outputs into real-time data via CAN. Designed for both tractor and trailer air disc brakes, BrakeSight is J1939-compliant compatible with all telematics platforms. SAF-HOLLAND works with the telematics providers selected by the fleet, offering open integration without exclusive partnerships.

The ultrasonically welded, IP6K9K-sealed housing features a 3-year/350,000-mile warranty.

HOLLAND SmartSTO: Safer uncoupling

Holland Smart Sto

Designed for air-release fifth wheels, SmartSTO improves driver safety by relocating release controls outside the cab and automating the stowing process, Ginocchio said.

The system prevents uncoupling until gladhands and electrical lines are fully stowed. The tractor parking brake must be set and power must be present for the system to operate.

"Uncoupling happens thousands of times everyday," Ginocchio said. "Each time comes with risk."

Uncoupling often requires drivers to reach beneath the trailer to manually pull the fifth wheel release; a common yet overlooked safety risk that increases injury exposure and slows the process. SmartSTO eliminates that hazard by relocating the air release control outside the cab, where drivers receive clear visual and audible confirmation of disengagement. Its patented system also prevents uncoupling until the gladhands and electrical lines are fully stowed, ensuring proper disconnect procedures while improving safety, awareness, and confidence at every stop.

It is scheduled for launch later this year.

UltraLite40 slider: Enhanced payload efficiency

Ulx40 With P89 Back Bottom View

The next-generation UltraLite40 slider for the ULX40 mechanical suspension system is engineered for on-highway van and refrigerated trailers. It is up to 30 lbs. lighter and 3.6-times more durable than the previous model, Ginocchio said. It includes the Qwik Release pin pull system, which requires 20% less effort, and standard galvanization. This system will also launch later this year.
