Adrienne Camire, who was announced earlier this year as the Senior Advisor to the Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), on March 7 was appointed by President Donald Trump as the Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator of the FMCSA.
In this role, Camire will lead FMCSA’s efforts to advance commercial motor vehicle safety, improve the efficiency of the nation’s freight and passenger transportation systems, and restore common sense principles to regulatory oversight, FMCSA said in a press release.
Adrienne Camire was appointed as FMCSA's Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator on March 7.FMCSA
Camire previously served as Chief Counsel for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) during President Trump’s first term, where she oversaw all legal services related to FHWA’s management of the federal-aid highway program. Camire has more than 20 years of legal, regulatory and compliance experience within the private and academic sectors.
“Thank you to President Trump and Secretary Duffy for their confidence in me to serve in this role,” Camire said. “I am honored to lead FMCSA in its mission to prevent commercial motor vehicle crashes, fatalities and injuries on our Nation’s roads. I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to advance our shared safety goals.”
Acting administrators at the FMCSA are not uncommon. The agency has only had two full-time administrators since the end of President Barack Obama's second term -- Raymond Martinez, who held the post from February 2018 until October 2019; and Robin Hutcheson, who was Administrator from September 2022 through January 2024.
There were three acting administrators between Martinez and Hutcheson -- Jim Mullen, Wiley Deck and Meera Joshi. There have also now been three acting administrators since Hutcheson's departure -- Sue Lawless, Vinn White, and now Camire.
