A new accreditation program launched by the Truckload Carriers Association will allow truckload carrier employees to attend meetings and earn continued education certificates centered around employee recruiting and retention and human resources.

TCA says the certificate programs are aimed at providing professional development opportunities for truckload carriers. Driver background screening and monitoring provider Driver iQ will sponsor the programs.

To begin the Truckload Academy program, TCA will offer three certificates: the Human Resources Certificate, which focuses on operations, recruitment and retention, and legal; the Recruitment Certificate, with a focus on driver recruitment, workforce recruitment and legal challenges in hiring; and the Retention Certificate, which centers around increasing driver retention and employee engagement. More information about each certificate can be found here.

In order to earn a certificate, candidates must earn 40 continuing education credits, or 40 hours, by attending webinars, on-demand training, face-to-face meetings and more. Five of the 40 credits must be earned at a live TCA event.

The group is also launching a Fleet Manager Certificate Program intended for fleet managers, driver managers, dispatchers, operations managers, customer service representatives, planners, front-line managers and more. This certificate program covers business, leadership and communication skills, setting expectations for drivers and more.

“This is the first and only program of its type for this industry, and it’s exciting to be affiliated with it,” says Lana Batts,Driver iQ’s co-president and a former president of TCA. “The challenges we see carriers facing every day confirms that a focus on professional development is exactly what this industry needs to attract and maintain a skilled workforce.”

Enrollment for the certificates can be done here for free. Upon completion of the programs, TCA members will be charged a $25 processing fee, and non-members will be charged $50.
