00:00 This week’s CCJ Tech Shorts features a new cardless fueling option, an advanced maintenance solution, a pricing logic platform integration and more.
00:21 Samsara has introduced a model context protocol, a direct connection that enables customers to bring their Samsara operational data into the AI assistants, agents and applications of their choosing without requiring a custom integration.
Customers can now connect their own third-party AI applications to Samsara using their existing credentials, and access remains limited to their organization and existing permissions.
Once connected, customers can ask questions about their operations directly in Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Cursor. More than 40 read-only tools allow these applications to retrieve information about vehicles, drivers, safety events and hours of service without changing records in Samsara. Developers can also incorporate these tools into custom agents.
01:19 Payment solutions provider Wex has launched cardless fuel payments for its over-the-road customers. The new capability generates a secure fuel code directly in the Wex CardControl app so drivers can purchase fuel without a physical fuel card.
This payment method aims to reduce fuel fraud with a single-use, location-specific code that expires after a short window, though drivers aren't dependent on an app or data connection at the pump as physical cards and codes can be used interchangeably. Cardless fuel codes run through a fleet's existing Wex card program, so controls and reporting carry over with zero disruption to existing workflows.
Wex OTR cardless is live at Pilot, One9, Love's, TA, Petro Stopping Centers, TA Express, and Maverik, with other networks rolling out through 2026.
02:02 Fleet maintenance and compliance software platform Whip Around has rolled out Advanced Maintenance, introducing Shop Ops and FleetAI: two add-ons designed to help fleets manage shop-floor operations and automate inspection and maintenance workflows.
Shop Ops brings shop-floor operations into the same platform fleets use to manage inspections and maintenance. Managers can schedule work across technicians and locations, record actual labor time and costs, and use cost-based approval rules. Completed work orders can be converted into quotes and invoices, reducing duplicate data entry and administrative work.
FleetAI applies AI and automation to repetitive, high-volume work across inspections and maintenance. It reviews inspection photos and surfaces potential issues for human confirmation. It can also automate routine workflows based on predefined conditions and extract information from maintenance documents such as invoices and receipts.
Together, the two add-ons create a connected workflow from inspection and defect identification through maintenance execution and completion.
03:07 Video telematics companies Nexar and Nauto agreed in July to merge. The two have now combined and are operating under the new name Empiric Earth.
Empiric Earth’s safety platform is built on more than 10 billion miles of observed driving and 60 million edge cases across 98% of U.S. roads and 50 or more countries. More than 350,000 connected sensors add over 300 million new miles every month.
The platform measures collisions and near-misses side by side to determine where risk builds to enable prediction with the aim to prevent accidents. Empiric Earth safety models have supported a 50% to 80% reduction in collision loss across enterprise fleets.
03:51 Tabi Connect, a freight rate management and quoting automation platform for transportation companies, has partnered with Kleinschmidt, a provider of B2B integration and supply chain connectivity, to bring automated freight quoting to the Kleinschmidt Intelligence Network.
Freight quote requests moving through the network now route directly into Tabi, where each broker's own pricing rules and strategy are applied automatically. The quote goes back to the shipper without a rep having to open an email or log in to see what freight is available first. Tabi’s Pricing Logic Engine lets brokerages configure rules by customer, lane, equipment type and market conditions and apply them consistently across every quote channel while keeping full visibility into the resulting rates.
The partnership also connects Tabi to Capacity IQ, Kleinschmidt’s predictive freight-capacity solution, which uses network data to forecast where and when carrier capacity is likely to become available. Pairing that signal with Tabi’s pricing logic gives brokers a read on available capacity before they price a load.
