Fleet tech provider Samsara has launched a new program to honor its customers’ safest drivers. Its first-ever Samsara Verified Safest Drivers list was released this week alongside National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

The list recognized 86 drivers across Samsara’s North American and European customer base among several industries, including transportation, construction, field services, and the public sector.

“The Samsara Verified Safest Drivers list is a perfect way to celebrate the drivers who are setting a new standard for safety on the roads,” said Robert Stobaugh, chief operating officer, GTM, at Samsara. “We appreciate the hard work they do every day to keep our communities moving, and we are proud to provide the technology that supports them best.”

The drivers recognized use Samsara AI dash cameras to help them prevent incidents and improve driving habits with in-cab alerts, coaching and data.

Samsara safety data from June 30, 2024 to June 30, 2025 was used to identify drivers on the list. To qualify, drivers had to have logged at least 10,000 miles during the qualifying period. Based on these requirements and the data, the majority of drivers on the list are located in the U.S.

Samsara said its customers drive more than 80 billion miles combined per year, and the platform helped prevent more than 250,000 accidents in its last fiscal year.

Drivers were ranked by their Safety Event Rate, which is the number of safety events per mile driven. Those events include crashes, harsh acceleration or braking, harsh turns, following too closely, forward collision warnings, inattentive driving, mobile device usage, obstructed camera, rolling stops, lane departures, and no seatbelt use. Based on the data, Samsara selected the top-performing driver from each customer with total miles driven determining the winner in the event of a tie.

In addition to Samsara, the company said several of its customers are using the list to celebrate their drivers by posting congratulatory messages on social media and sharing internal announcements, such as at management meetings and during company driver recognition days. The Samsara platform also provides insights for driver recognition, enabling managers to celebrate safe driving streaks, share personalized kudos, and more.

A Samsara representative told CCJ that the goal of this initiative is to spotlight professional drivers who make roads safer every day yet often go unrecognized by the public.

“We aim to celebrate their dedication to safety and professionalism, honor the essential role they play in keeping communities moving, and highlight their impact on safer roads,” the spokesperson said. “We also hope it inspires other drivers and their larger organizations to embrace safe driving practices, creating a ripple effect that improves safety standards across industries.”
