Fleet telematics provider Geotab has rolled out its first-ever cabin-facing camera, which has already exhibited success in a pilot that resulted in a reduction of tailgating by 90% and a reduction of phone use by 95%.
GO Focus Plus is a dual-facing dash camera that uses precision AI to identify risky behaviors and provide in-cab verbal alerts to help drivers correct those behaviors. It also includes a new video intelligence platform that applies AI in the cloud to surface the most critical moments and unite driving and video data to deliver a complete picture of risk so fleet managers can coach and keep track of drivers.
“By uniting the power of video with Geotab data intelligence, we are providing drivers with an in-cab partner that helps them correct risks instantly,” said Charlie Elliott, senior vice president of marketing and Marketplace. “This system empowers fleet managers to move beyond reactive incident review and instead foster a culture of safety that protects their most valuable asset, which is their people.”
Elliott said this new solution is an investment in supporting drivers and their safety. That’s why Geotab focused heavily on trustworthiness of the notification, he said.
“We want to build driver trust so that when you actually do pick up your phone, it's a real alert, and it's a real warning. There's not a bunch of false alarms. Like, if I have my pen in my hand, it's not going to think I'm smoking,” Elliott said. “We put a lot of work into the highest bar of precision that we could get to so that it didn't become a dismissive distraction for the driver, giving a whole bunch of false alerts. That's very much where we started and invested in building our own custom AI models for detection on the device itself to become that trusted assistant.”
He said drivers can think of GO Focus Plus like an in-cab assistant.
Key features include proactive driver coaching, targeted fleet management and seamless workflow and safety culture.

With proactive driver coaching, the AI dash cam provides instant, in-cab voice prompts to drivers when risky behaviors like distracted driving or tailgating are detected to help them self-correct habits.
With targeted fleet management, AI-driven video intelligence surfaces the most urgent risks and repeat patterns for quick review, eliminating the need for fleet managers to sort through extensive footage. Each alert includes video and contextual data, enabling targeted and effective coaching.
And the MyGeotab platform allows for a seamless workflow, including the assignment, tracking, and recognition of progress to help reinforce a strong culture of safety within the fleet.
The video intelligence platform architecture is designed to support a growing family of advanced cameras, and new models and capabilities are planned in the coming months, Geotab said.

In addition to its GO Focus road-facing only camera, Geotab offers other camera options through other vendors in its marketplace, but it seems Geotab is now considering expanding its own camera options. The platform is built to continuously evolve as its advanced AI models refine detection and coaching automatically with every update, and Elliott said AI will continue to play a massive role.
“AI is going to be a piece of almost everything, everything we do going forward,” he said.
