Top company drivers, owner-operators competing for big money

Three company drivers and three owner-operators have been named finalists for the 2020 Company Driver of the Year and Owner-Operator of the Year awards, the Truckload Carriers Association announced. The winner of each award will receive a $25,000 cash prize. The two finalists for the owner-operator award will receive $2,500 each, and the one finalist for the company driver award will receive $5,000.

Glen Horack, Bryan Smith and Douglas Schildgen are finalists for the 2020 Owner-Operator of the Year award. Horack, of Elkland, Missouri, is leased to Prime, based in Springfield, Missouri. Schildgen, of Waterloo, Iowa, is leased to Warren Transport, also based in Waterloo, Iowa. Smith, of Asbury, Iowa, is leased to Tucker Freight Lines, based in Dubuque, Iowa. Horack and Smith are former finalists for the award.

Likewise, Betty Aragon and Dennis Cravener are the Company Driver of the Year finalists. Aragon, of Tucumcari, New Mexico, drives for Wilson Logistics, based in Springfield, Missouri. Cravener, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, drives for Givens Transportation based in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The winners will be announced April 20 at TCA’s annual meeting. Originally scheduled for Jan. 23-26 in Nashville, Tennessee, the meeting is now set for April 17-20 at the Wynn Las Vegas.

CCJ sister publication Overdrive co-produces the owner-operator award with TCA. Truckers News, another sister brand of CCJ, co-produces the company driver award.
