Volvo Trucks North America this week extended its sponsorship of the American Trucking Associations' America's Road Team through 2027, marking the manufacturer's 25th consecutive year supporting the program.
America's Road Team Captains are professional drivers selected for their safety records and communication skills. The program currently features 92 active captains who serve as industry ambassadors. Over the quarter-century of Volvo's sponsorship, the captains have logged an estimated 428 million safe driving miles, including 213 million miles amassed by the current roster.
The drivers act as advocates for the trucking industry by testifying before lawmakers, hosting ride-alongs for policymakers and journalists, and speaking at schools and career fairs. According to the ATA, the program has conducted more than 230 safety events since 2019 and reached an estimated 2.5 million people.
As part of the sponsorship, new captains will travel the country in a Volvo VNL 860, which hauls the ATA Interstate One mobile classroom to nationwide events. The truck features Volvo’s advanced driver assistance and occupant protection technologies.
