Hey everybody, CCJ Editor Jason Canon here. And today I am in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, home of Volvo Construction Equipment, where Volvo just unveiled the all new VAX. That refreshed VAX is the third V in truck to get a makeover right behind the Val in the venture. And in this video, I'm going to give you a firsthand look at the biggest updates to the toughest, safest, and most connected vocational truck that Volvo has ever built for all things trucking, whether that's trucking, gravel, trucking cement, or trucking pallets.

Volvo Trucks is officially unveiled. The all new VAX engineered from the ground up for the most demanding work in construction, concrete, logging, agriculture and municipal service. Under the hood, a proven D13 engine pumps out up to 540 horsepower and 1950ft pounds of torque, while still meeting strict EPA 2027 emissions standards across all 50 states.

And with factory installed 4G telematics, remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates, your fleet stays rolling instead of sitting in the shop. Safety comes standard, featuring advanced pedestrian detection, dual side blind spot alerts, and industry first optional side curtain airbags. The VAX looks out for everybody on the ground. Inside, the cabin is built to protect the driver from fatigue, featuring noise dampening comfort, Volvo dynamic steering and an innovative remote steer feature that gives operators full control from outside the cab in tight spaces.

Now, this remote stirring function we talked about last night, brand new for the all new X valve, was the only manufacturer North America that provides this from the factory.

This is a huge update from our previous vocational truck. We've integrated a lot of new features, the complete dash, all the controls are quite a bit closer, more easy to reach. We have a lot of controls that are really physical switches because we know that when you're on rough terrain, you need to be able to find those. They got a really solid, consistent feel across.

We've got good visibility out of the dash, so even this trim piece here is pretty intentional. To be able to allow you to carve away the rest of the dash here. So you've got great visibility out in front of the A pillar. We've got two interior trim levels for this truck. So you've got some options. You got options on seating and the look in the feel.

But really, I think what's cool about this truck is there's tons of functional features inside of here that I think is a big update for vocational. I mean, you can see right here, this is actually attachment for a standardized mount for display or accessory. We can physically move these switches around these flex packs. So you can actually rearrange where switches go in here.

And the electrical architecture knows where that that switch is there. So it's pretty cool. You can you can reconfigure things as you need. There's a lot of complexity for these vocational trucks. But some of the really great stuff is just the safety features. You've got, of course, the airbag and the steering wheel, but you also have this side impact airbag up here.

And I think one that's actually pretty important is just how quiet this cab is.

You know, and other trucks and previous trucks and competitor trucks, you might have a lot of squeaks and rattles and things like that. This dash is extremely quiet, really high tolerance. So the cab environment inside is actually really quiet. So that kind of just makes it a little bit easier when you're inside the cab because like I said, as soon as you step out it can be pretty harsh.

Job site hazards come at you. Fast flying gravel, thermal shock and constant embrasure. Just part of the daily grind. That's why the all new Volvo VAX features the tough shield windshield engineered to outlast and outperform anything standard glass can handle. It's twice as resistant to sharp impacts and thermal shock, and a massive five times more scratch resistant than traditional tempered glass.

So we're going to give you a quick demonstration. What we've got here. Jim's going to be operating what we call our hail accelerator. And what we do is we take hail balls. They're about an inch and a half in diameter solid ice, and we're going to accelerate them towards the windshield at about 70mph. All right. Three.
