The Sprinter van is staple working vehicle, but some times a van just won’t do.
At one point in time this Sprinter 3500 was just a chassis cab. But then Maranda got ahold of it and put a nice utility bed and shelving system on it. This is a lineman/utility worker’s dream. Shelving for days, ladder rack, split bench seat and covered bed storage.
The Benz 4-cylinder was more than powerful enough to push the unloaded truck around traffic-packed downtown Charleston, S.C., but I thought the turbo was a little over-anxious. But, I could see how if the truck was fully loaded down with equipment, that might not be the case.
One thing was abundantly clear. This spec’d up Sprinter not only looked like a truck (complete with dual rear wheels), it felt like one, too. The seven-speed Shiftronic transmission was eager and the turning radius of the truck would rival any pickup on the market.
The truck was easy to drive and visibility was exceptional.
Cab fit and comfort is what your would expect from Mercedes-Benz, but not overdone. After all, this is a work truck.
The Sprinter 3500 is a favorite of conversion companies and RV’ers, but this chassis cab was a real workhorse.
