Specialized carrier group opens nomination period for annual awards

The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) is now accepting nominations for numerous annual awards, including its Jobs of the Year in rigging and transportation, fleet and driver safety and more.

Transportation awards include Jobs of the Year, Fleet Safety Award, Safety Improvement Award, Zero Accident Award, Driver Safety and Driver of the Year, and the Million Miler Award.

Fleet safety awards are based on a USDOT Recordable Accident Frequency rate of less than or equal to 0.67. Safety Improvement Awards are given to companies who show a reduction in their accident frequency rate for its miles traveled compared to the previous year’s accident frequency rate. Zero Accident Awards are awarded to companies who meet the criteria noted above, plus zero recordable accidents as defined by CFR Section 390.5.

For the Driver Safety and Driver of the Year awards, a driver may be nominated for a long record of safe and courteous driving, demonstrated leadership amongst peers, and outstanding contributions to highway safety.

The Million Miler Award is awarded to drivers for accumulating a minimum of 1 million consecutive OS/OW miles accident free.

Nominations for each award can be submitted online here through Feb. 28.

Sutton Transport President named CEO of Envoy Logistics

Sutton Transport President Cliff Sutton has been named CEO of Envoy Logistics. Sutton Transport, along with its 13 terminals in Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin, and nearly 400 trucks, was sold to Pitt Ohio Transport Group (CCJ Top 250, No. 45).

"For me, operating an LTL carrier has been both challenging and rewarding," Sutton wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing his transition. "Leading Sutton Transport taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and adaptability in navigating the complexities of LTL trucking. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the value of strong partnerships and exceptional service. I am grateful to my parents for giving me the opportunity to lead Sutton Transport and to my wife and children for their unwavering support."

DOT seeks nominations for annual award for combating human trafficking

The Department of Transportation is looking for nominations for its annual award recognizing an individual or entity in transportation for their efforts to help stop human trafficking.

The annual Combating Human Trafficking in Transportation Impact Award is a component of the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking initiative that seeks to raise awareness among transportation stakeholders about human trafficking and increase training and prevention to combat the crime.

The award serves as a platform for transportation stakeholders to creatively develop impactful and innovative countertrafficking tools, initiatives, campaigns, and technologies that can be shared with the broader community to help stop human trafficking. It’s open to individuals and entities, including non-governmental organizations, transportation industry associations, research institutions, and state and local government organizations.

Entrants compete for a cash award of up to $50,000 to be awarded to the individual(s) or entity selected for creating the most impactful counter-trafficking initiative or technology.

Applicants must submit their entries using the form here. Submission packages should include 12 components, which can be found in the Federal Register notice announcing the opening of the entry period. Submissions will be accepted for 60 days beginning Monday, Jan. 6.

Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award nomination period opens

The Women in Trucking Association (WIT), Truckstop, and Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) are seeking nominations for the 2025 Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award (DWLA).

The annual award recognizes exceptional women who have made significant contributions to the logistics and trucking industry. Award recipients demonstrate leadership, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. 

"This award highlights the remarkable talent and contributions of women who inspire and drive positive change in our industry,” said Jennifer Hedrick, president and CEO, WIT. â€śWe encourage nominations for this award to celebrate those who are shaping the future of logistics and setting the standard for excellence."

Supported by Truckstop and TIA, the award is open to high-performing women involved in logistics, including those in freight brokerage, third-party logistics (3PL), supply chain management, and related fields. 

The winner of the award will be announced during the TIA 2025 Capital Ideas Conference on Friday, April 11 in San Antonio.
