In June, expect Texas to be a good state for filling empty vans and flatbeds in the spot market. Last June saw strong increases in freight volumes for dry van, flatbed and reefer equipment types. The latest CCJ Equipment Demand Index shows that Texas claimed the top spot from Georgia for van demand and continued to maintain the No. 1 position for flatbed demand for the second consecutive year. Demand in Texas for van and flatbed equipment types has grown over the past three years. During this time, Texas worked its way up from No. 8 for van demand and No. 4 for flatbed demand.

Last June, California took the top spot for reefer demand, bumping Georgia back to second position. Over the past three years Georgia and California have held the top two positions for reefer demand.

The index, based on equipment searches performed by TransCore customers, shows the top 15 states in terms of demand for trucks in the spot market in the three most common equipment types: dry vans, flatbeds and refrigerated units. The index is intended to help fleet operators identify the most promising opportunities for backhaul and other spot-market freight in the month after its publication.
