STS LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dycom Industries, Inc., announced that it has selected the Quadrant System from AT&T Wireless and WebTech Wireless to reduce its fleet operation costs and increase service response times to their customer base.

STS, one of North America’s oldest providers of underground utility location services, operates a fleet of 800-plus trucks throughout a 17-state area.

“The Quadrant System from WebTech and AT&T Wireless has brought us real-time fleet management including field data,” says Mike Bell, Eastern Vice President of STS. As a result of deploying Quadrant, Bell says that STS has experienced fuel reductions resulting from enhanced traffic monitoring and reduced vehicle idle times.

STS began using the fleet management solution WebTech Wireless as a pilot program in October 2002, installing it in 20 trucks in its Atlanta office for several months and consequently decided to roll out the system across its entire fleet in 17 states.

The WebTech Locator Device for AT&T Wireless’ GSM/GPRS networks has been commercially available since 2001 and provides proven vehicle-based data service capabilities that include: GPS location services, Internet, telemetry alerts (equipment on/off, panic alerts), J1708 databus, messaging, maintenance alerts and hands-free voice.
