A public meeting will be held April 21-22 in Albuquerque, N.M., to discuss the Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration’s cargo securement standards.

The meeting is 1-5 p.m. April 21 and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 22 in the Albuquerque Convention Center at 401 Second St. N.W.

Larry Minor, director of FMCSA’s office of bus and truck standards and operations, said the discussion will center on ensuring that U.S. and Canadian officials have the same interpretation of the North American Standard for Protection Against Shifting or Falling Cargo.

“A second issue will be to identify any potential securement issues that may come up in the future that will cause less collaboration” between the two countries, Minor said.

FMCSA published a revised securement rule in September 2002, and carriers were given until Jan. 1, 2004, to comply with it. Canada approved its new National Safety Code Standard for cargo securement in September 2004, and it is expected to be fully implemented this summer.
