The 26th annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree is July 14-15 at the Iowa 80 in Walcott, Iowa, at Exit 284 from Interstate 80.
Events and attractions include an antique truck show with more than 250 entries, a pork chop cookout, a pet contest, a trucker Olympics, a Ferris wheel and carnival games, two live bands and a Colgate Country Showdown music competition.
A highlight of the event is the Super Truck Beauty Contest, co-sponsored by International, TransCore and Truckers News.
For owner-operators, the On the Road with Castrol Tection Extra tractor-trailer also will be on hand, offering blood pressure screening, postcards home, a video with maintenance tips from truck racing champion John Force, and the last chance to enter Castrol’s Big Honkin’ Truck Makeover contest.
Admission and parking are free. Shuttles will carry attendees to and from the parking area.
The first Truckers Jamboree attracted a few hundred people in 1979, the year the TV series B.J. and the Bear premiered on NBC. Today the jamboree draws a crowd of more than 30,000.
“We are very proud to be celebrating America’s truckers on such a grand scale,” said Delia Moon Meier, senior vice president of the famed truck stop. “Professional drivers are the backbone of this country, moving goods wherever we need them. We appreciate them, and this is our way of saying thank you.”
