Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation of Tokyo has appointed Robert E. McDowell president and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America Inc., effective Monday, Aug. 1.

McDowell, the first American-born president of MFTA, replaces Isao Toda, who will return to Japan to become president of Chiba Mitsubishi Fuso.

McDowell has served as MFTA’s executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2000, and joined the company at its inception in 1985 as regional sales manager.

Under Toda’s leadership, MFTA has grown steadily, enjoying the highest monthly sales in its history in March 2005. McDowell said that continuing the company’s pattern of growth will be his top priority.

“Mr. Toda has left us well positioned for dramatic growth,” McDowell said. “I’m confident that we can carry out his vision.”
