Motorists and truck drivers can celebrate their interdependence at the 2nd Annual International Highway Interdependence Day Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 10 in Moosic, Pa.

Hosted by KnightTime Inc. and partners, the goal of the celebration is to recognize the relationship between the trucking industry, other highway motorists, law enforcement and the government. The celebration aims to create unity to make the highways safer and to promote economic growth. It also seeks to expose the trucking industry to the public in hopes of decreasing negative stereotypes against truckers.

The celebration will feature a People’s Choice Award truck competition. Celebration visitors will vote for their favorite in several categories. The adult division will include “The Nicest Interior,” “The Best Paint Job,” “The Nicest Chrome Job” and “Overall Best Rigged Rig.” The youth division will include the “Coolest Truck Award” winner and runner-up.

In addition to the truck competition, there will be National Guard vehicle tours, antique fire truck rides, show trucks, hybrid trucks and motorcycle displays. The celebration also will inform visitors with demonstrations like truck recovery, cut and rescue, exploding tires and more.

Sunny Aaron, a rock singer from Missouri, will perform, and there will be games, prizes and a “Whack-a-Car” for entertainment. Companies can participate by bringing a truck, sponsoring a game with company merchandise prizes or conducting demonstrations.

The celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lackawanna County Stadium in Moosic. The competition’s entry fee is $15, and proceeds go toward paying the expenses of the celebration. Prizes include certificates, ribbons and pictures. To register, visit www.highwayinterdependenceday.com or call Sheryl Youngblood at (570) 341-5712.
