Retread specialist Bandag Inc. has announced it will offer BDR-W (Bandag Driver Regional-Winter), a new tread for the North American market.

The directional design includes full sipes for added traction in harsh winter conditions, even on snow layers that remain unsalted and polished by nonstudded tires.

BDR-W was developed for North America and Europe and is designed for drive positions in over-the-road and pickup and delivery applications. BDR-W has improved snow tractions over competitive offerings without sacrificing treadwear, the company says.

“These treads are intended to be put into use just before our winter season begins, with or without studs and chains,” says Chris Hoffman, Bandag product manager of global tire products. “BDR-W offers a deep 26/32-inch tread depth and a variable sipe configuration that reduces tearing and irregular wear.”

The tread now is available in 210, 220, 230 and 250 mm sizes. An additional size, 240 mm, will be available later this fall.
