Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell has ordered the state Department of Motor Vehicles to suspend the registrations of all trucks owned by a Bloomfield company involved in an accident that killed four people in Avon in July.

Rell acted after a truck owned by American Crushing & Recycling was stopped Sept. 16 for allegedly being overweight by more than 18,000 pounds, she said.

Rell said Tuesday, Sept. 20 that she also ordered the DMV to prohibit the company from registering additional vehicles.

The DMV scheduled an administrative hearing on the matter for Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Calls by the Associated Press and the Hartford Courant to American Crushing were referred to company lawyers, who did not return phone calls seeking comment.
