Schneider National announced that it has been selected by Shell Oil Products U.S. (SOPUS) to provide an integrated transportation, transportation management and freight payment solution for two of SOPUS’ largest distribution and manufacturing facilities in the United States.
SOPUS Products is a subsidiary of Shell Oil Co., a wholly owned member of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies (NYSE: RD). SOPUS has facilities in eight locations across the United States, including Los Angeles; Portland, Ore.; Roxana, Ill.; Houston; Charleston, S.C.; Vicksburg, Miss.; Newell, W.Va. and Metairie, La.
SOPUS says it selected Schneider as part of its new regional-based strategy for greater flexibility, reduced costs and a more competitive position in the marketplace.
“The expanded relationship with SOPUS offers an exciting opportunity to integrate Schneider services to help them optimize operations and ultimately achieve a more competitive position in the market,” said Dan Van Alstine, Schneider National’s senior vice president of sales. “With our expertise, SOPUS can leave shipping complexities to us and focus on growing its business.”
Specifically, SOPUS selected a blend of Schneider One-Way and its network of certified third-party carriers through Schneider Transportation Management to transport packaged lubricants — including motor oils, greases and other products — for its four manufacturing and distribution facilities in Houston and Roxana, near St. Louis. Schneider also is providing routing guide execution, load tendering, reporting and freight payment services. The new contract evolved from the company’s current relationship with Schneider Bulk, which has transported liquid lubricants for SOPUS since 2000.
“We are excited about our growing relationship with Schneider and our new relationship with Schneider Logistics,” said Jonathan Seveney, SOPUS Lubricants transportation and logistics director. “Our strategy continues to be focused toward leading-edge technology and logistics solutions to create greater value for our business and ‘best in class’ service to our customers. Our strategic relationship with Schneider Logistics will enable us to reach our goal of improving how SOPUS Lubricants manages logistics.”
