GeoLogic Solutions, a provider of multimode mobile communications and tracking systems, has announced that it has been granted a patent by the U.S. Patent Office for its Proximity Alert product that was released to market in 2002.

Proximity Alert is a user-defined proximity notification product that utilizes GPS points and interval timers to monitor the movement of vehicles. Utilizing a feature that is commonly known as geofencing, Proximity Alert is designed to offer automatic notification to fleet managers in real time when trucks equipped with the technology enter or leave defined locations.

According to Herndon, Va.-based GeoLogic, the Proximity Alert feature can be programmed over-the-air to automatically track vehicle arrivals and departures, measure detention, verify off-duty time, detect truck movement and send out-of-route notifications, as well as notify of entrance into “keep-away areas.” It also can alert fleet managers if a vehicle is detained at any location beyond a specified period of time, the company says. Requiring no driver intervention, Proximity Alert also is designed to provide carriers the ability to increase load detention revenue and build a database to store information for future load and movement applications.
