A bill before a Michigan Senate committee would raise the highway speed limit for trucks from 55 mph to 60 mph.

The bill would affect trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or more on freeways where the passenger vehicle speed limit is 70 mph. It also would raise the highway speed limit for four-wheelers towing vehicles and trailers to 60 mph.

House members approved the bill Nov. 9 by a vote of 94-12.
