Independent contractor Bob Syfert recently was honored for achieving three million safe miles with Midwest Coast Transport. Syfert, a Portland, Ore. native, has been driving with MCT since 1981 when he entered their training school.

“I really cannot find the proper words to thank him for his efforts over his 24-plus-year span,” says Matt Staniszewski, president of Sioux Falls, S.D.-based MCT. “This is a remarkable accomplishment and truly defines the meaning of professional.”

Syfert attributes his accomplishment to staying focused all the time. “Do not let yourself get bored or complacent while driving, and know your limits,” he says. “This will help you avoid fatigue.”

Syfert, who now calls Sioux Falls home, enjoys spending his off time with his fiancée, Kathleen Smith, and his daughter, Vanessa. “You have to be self-motivated and an ambassador for the company you represent, yourself and trucking,” Syfert says.
