Florida motorists now can call 511 for current information on traffic, road construction, lane closures, severe weather and travel time on interstates and major highways. That information, plus alternate travel routes, also is available at www.FL511.com. A $10 million Federal Highway Administration grant helped fund the new service.
In 2000, the Federal Communications Commission designated 511 as the single traffic information telephone number to be made available to states and local jurisdictions across the country. At least 21 states and additional areas of the United States have 511 service, according to the FHWA.
