Hub Group 1Q profit, revenue up

Hub Group has announced its first-quarter results. First-quarter profit rose to $9.1 million, up from $5.3 million in the same quarter of 2005. Revenue rose 8.3 percent to $356.7 million, the Downers Grove, Ill.-based transportation company says.

During the quarter, revenue classified as intermodal totaled $260.7 million, an 11 percent increase. The company also says that it expects to sell its Hub Group Distribution Services subsidiary during the second quarter.

Nathan Meisgeier, president of Omaha, Nebraska-based Werner Enterprises, said his carrier is committing to hire 1,400 veterans over the coming year as part of the Freedom Haulers initiative.
